Dr. Alexander Matz - founder of Atlantic Centre for Minimally Invasive, Endoscopic and Laser surgery -
is a general surgeon specializing in minimally invasive procedures.
He obtained his surgical and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) training in Israel.Dr. Matz is certified in General Surgery by an Israeli Board and Royal College of the Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
He has been practicing in Nova Scotia since 2001 and has an extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Matz is affiliated to the Western Regional Health Centre in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
We were the first in the province to perform Laparoscopic Splenectomy, Laparoscopic Repair of Large Paraesophageal Hearnias, Different types of Laparoscopic Colectomy, Local excision of rectal lesions by transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), Laparoscopic treatment for surgical emergencies such as Bowel Obstructions and Perforated Ulcers, etc.
Our experience was presented at various Provincial, National and International Surgical meetings, including the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons in New York in 2004 and The XXXV Congress of The International College of Surgeons in Pattaya, Thailand in 2006.Recently we introduced a minimally invasive approach to the treatment of Varicose veins which were traditionally treated by major surgical procedure – surgical stripping.
The results of this new method - Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) - are significantly better compared to the stripping of varicose veins. It is an office procedure which does not require general anesthesia or hospitalization.
